Title:  Wetland environmental values

Abstract:  Wetlands of high ecological significance (HES) identify areas where policies apply under the State Planning Policy 4/11: Protecting Wetlands of High Ecological Significance in Great Barrier Reef Catchments. They are an integral part of wetland protection areas, which are defined in the Environmental Protection Regulation 2008. HES wetlands within the Great Barrier Reef catchments provides the basis for DEHP's concurrence agency role for development involving high impact earthworks within wetland protection areas under the Sustainable Planning Regulation 2009.
